Does it matter which ram slot you use

I have an eMAC 1GHz. I have 2 sticks of RAM installed - 128MB & 512MB (PC133 SDRAM). Does it make a difference which slot they are installed in? Currently the 128MB is in DIMM0/J1600 and the 512MB is in DIMM1/J1601. Would putting the 512MB stick in slot DIMM1/J1601 make a difference? 3 Answers. Every slot color indicates that which type of RAM should be placed in it. If there are two slots that have the same color then it indicates that it supports dual channel.

Sometimes you will have to swap the RAM slots since the detection has bugs. Like it will only show 4GB instead of the 8GB. Swapping the slots might work.. If the detection is really bad then it might not work at all.. IE you can either use the 4GB RAM or the 8GB RAM but not both at the same time. For example you might use different slots if you have 2 sticks of 128 and a stick of 256, than if you had 3 sticks of 128 or 3 sticks of 256. My board uses slots 1 and 3 with 2 sticks of 256. It supports 4GB of Ram, but if you use double sided RAM it only supports it in 3 slots, 4 slots with single sided RAM. My question is does it matter in which slot I put them? Is there a sequence? I think not but trying to be sure.The order of RAM does matter if you want to use quad channel, however I think your system should still boot even if the order isn't respected.
