3 Answers. Every slot color indicates that which type of RAM should be placed in it. If there are two slots that have the same color then it indicates that it supports dual channel.
Sometimes you will have to swap the RAM slots since the detection has bugs. Like it will only show 4GB instead of the 8GB. Swapping the slots might work.. If the detection is really bad then it might not work at all.. IE you can either use the 4GB RAM or the 8GB RAM but not both at the same time. For example you might use different slots if you have 2 sticks of 128 and a stick of 256, than if you had 3 sticks of 128 or 3 sticks of 256. My board uses slots 1 and 3 with 2 sticks of 256.
